The Yamaha U3 is probably one of the best all-round pianos and it suited to beginners and professionals alike. Due to its height, the piano has a large soundboard and longer strings than a majority of upright pianos. This results in a rich, resonant tone, tone.
The Yamaha U3 is one of the most popular models in the Yamaha range. They come highly recommended by piano teachers, and you will often find them in Schools and Colleges due to their work-horse reputation.
If you do not have room for a grand piano in your living area, then the Yamaha U3 is the perfect alternative. Being quite tall, it means that in most cases, the depth and tonal quality of the U3 surpasses a smaller baby grand.
Most Yamaha U3’s you come across will be high gloss black polyester. If you are looking for a wood finish U3, they are quite rare. Most mahogany Yamaha U3’s that we have come across in the past have been European built U3’s, which would have been manufactured in the Kemble factory in Milton Keynes, rather than Japan.
A brand new Yamaha U3 sells for around £9000 at present (as of September 2019). It is nice to find really recent Yamaha U3’s that are only a few years old, but most commonly you’ll find U3’s that are 1970’s, 1980’s and 1990’s imports from Japan. So long as these are nicely reconditioned, they are a great alternative to a new model, and good value for money.
The reason that we mention reconditioning, is that one of the common problems with older U3’s, in particular, those made in the 70’s, is that the loop cord was prone to breaking. Loop cords are the part of the action that is responsible for producing it’s wonderfully responsive touch.
For this reason, all of our used Yamaha U3’s have been thoroughly checked, and come with a 5 Year guarantee, as you would get on a brand new piano.
